We need your help on something.
We are trying to do a better job of communicating to people who we are and what we feel God has given us to do. For the brochure, we need a title and a tag line. Our title or name is: The Luke Ten Community. As you know, this grows out of our conviction that it is in Lk. 10 that Jesus gives the clearest description of His strategy for the expansion of the Kingdom. What we need help with is the tag line. Here's some ideas we've come up with so far...
The Luke Ten Community: Vibrant. Viral. Spontaneous.
The Luke Ten Community: Releasing churches that are vibrant, viral, spontaneous.
The Luke Ten Community: Transforming cities one household at a time.
The Luke Ten Community: City transformation one household at a time.
The Luke Ten Community: A community of practice for church planters.
I'm picturing two kinds of readers/audiences. The first is potential members of our Community. That is, men and women who are called and gifted to plant house churches. The second is potential donors. People who may be called to support this vision financially.
Which of those tag lines communicates the best? (Or, maybe you have a different one to suggest.)
Thanks for your help on this!

I like the first two best because they sound so active and alive.
ReplyDeleteBut I wonder if there's a way of getting across the idea of hearing and obedience? This is what I had in mind when I came up with the names 'Focussed on the King', 'Royal Focus', and 'All About Jesus' for some of our local blogs and groups.
How about something like...
Hearing Jesus, nurturing church.
Vibrant church from hearing and doing
Listen and hear, plant and build
Following the King towards thriving church communities
Learning to listen, releasing vibrant church
I have to take Donna to the railway station but will try to come up with some more ideas later.
Donna is now on the train to London, I'm back home, here are three more suggestions.
ReplyDeleteDrawing church to the heart of Jesus
Hearing the heart of Jesus, pouring his life into church
Hearing the heart of Jesus, awaking the heart of church
Or perhaps better...
ReplyDeleteHearing the heart of Jesus, arousing the heart of church
I like the thoughts of household and change (transformation). But would maybe also have thoughts of letting Jesus build/establish his kingdom/church.I like the ideas of hearing and heart that Chris mentions.
ReplyDeleteI think the 2nd and 3rd ones are most descriptive - while also inviting the reader to look further.
ReplyDeleteWow Chris, you have been pretty creative this morning. Next time I need to brainstorm I know where to go :) Keep up the good creative work.
ReplyDeleteI don't know if I noticed it until Chris said it. There is more life in terms of fast paced movement and contagious energy in the second. I like the values mentioned in the third of transformation, our cities, and households, but it seems very slow. It would take some good visionary people to buy into a slow starting multiplication process. I also think vibrant, viral, and spontaneous are distinct from what anyone else I have read or organizations I am aware of would say.
My first thought was the 3rd option--though I like several of them. Perhaps its because I'm thinking about the counties of Texas and not just cities, a change from "cities" to "world" or "our world" might add another level of vision.
ReplyDeleteA different direction. We had our MRT meeting this past Monday morning. My Mexican coworker, Gerardo mentioned almost in passing that God has him thinking of "Familias de Paz" (Families of Peace) as a way to talk about what Mexico (and the world) needs right now. He talked about how instead of evangelistic plans or big church planting strategies, he sensed God wants to begin with an invitation to families--that a family could allow God to enter and transform them into a Family of Peace--a grassroots movement across Mexico--that could ultimately change everything.
I'm not sure if this fits with what you are wanting here, but I thought that it might be more than coincidence that this came up earlier this week.
We (HI workers) like "The Luke Ten Community: A community of practice for church planters." Simple, straightforward, and clearly identifies the group for what it is. Plus, the term "church planters" is real hot right now.
ReplyDeleteI appreciate the suggested options and the input from others.
ReplyDeleteIt seems to me that as much as we put two intended audiences together, they are quite different in their thinking. Donors may be thinking in terms of bigger picture. Their asset is money, and they want to know what difference, or impact, they can make. So, bigger scale titles are more appealing to them, such as all the "cities" versions. Church planters are also thinking about bigger picture but their immediate context is that of their community. Their assets are their lives and the lives of people in their community. They need to see the change sooner, so their favorites may be the titles about transformation and viral life. My experience tells me that it is necessary to distinguish between the two groups and provide each group with appropriate vision.
